Vecates pagasta komanda izcīna pirmo vietu Burtnieku novada sporta spēlēs
Ar Vecates pagasta komandas uzvaru beigušās 2012. gada Burtnieku novada sporta spēles, kas 2. jūnijā notika Matīšu pamatskolas sporta zālē un apkārtnē. Cīņas bija sīvas, ko apliecina arī kopvērtējuma tabula. Vecates pagasta sportisti spēja izcīnīt 220 punktus, otrajā vietā atstājot pagājušā gada uzvarētājus – Rencēnu pagasta komandu (219 punkti), bet trešajā pozīcijā finišēja Valmieras pagasta izveidotā vienība (217 punkti).
Lai arī diena solījās būt drēgna un lietaina, sporta spēlēs pulcējās vairāk nekā 300 dalībnieku. Viņi pārstāvēja novada sešu pagastu komandas, bet viesu statusā bija Paistu pagasta izveidotā vienība no Igaunijas. Uzvarētāji tika noskaidroti astoņās disciplīnās – volejbolā vīriešiem un sievietēm, tautas bumbā sievietēm, florbolā vīriešiem, minifutbolā vīriešiem, duatlonā, kā arī jautrības stafetē. Visveiksmīgākais starts izdevās Vecates komandai. Tā izcīnīja pirmo vietu minifutbolā un duatlonā, bet otro labāko rezultātu uzrādīja trīs disciplīnās – volejbolā sievietēm, florbolā un tautas bumbā.
Spēļu organizatori bija padomājuši arī par tiem, kuri nebija iekļauti pagastu komandu sastāvā, bet vēlējās piedalīties pasākumā. Viņiem bija iespēja startēt individuālajās disciplīnās. Titulu „Novada spēka vīrs” izcīnīja Artūrs Skračs no Rencēniem, bet „Izveicīgākā saimniece” – Inga Broka no Matīšiem. Savukārt basketbola soda metienos sekmīgākie izrādījās Roberts Rusmanis un Sintija Skulte. Notika arī atrakcija „Labākais makšķernieks”, kur par uzvarētājiem kļuva Andris Rutkovskis un Veneranda Logina.
Pēc dienas sportiskās daļas beigām dalībnieki tika aicināti uz Matīšu estrādi, kur notika apbalvošanas ceremonija. Matīšnieki bija sagatavojuši sporta spēļu dalībniekiem jauku koncertu ar pašdarbnieku kolektīvu priekšnesumiem, turklāt sportisti tika cienāti ar gardām vakariņām. Uzvarētāji mājup devās ar skaistiem kausiem, medaļām un iegūtajām lieliskajām emocijām. Vairums no sporta spēļu dalībniekiem atzina, ka pasākums bijis izdevies un ka noteikti arī nākamgad atsauksies aicinājumam pārstāvēt savu pagastu Burtnieku novada sporta spēlēs
